In January, 2016, newly painted icons were installed on the royal doors of the St. Herman Monastery church. The wooden doors themselves had originally been used as temporary royal doors in the Joy of All Who Sorrow Cathedral on Geary Blvd. in San Francisco, where St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco had prayed before them. When the permanent doors were installed there, Archbishop Anthony of blessed memory gave the old doors to our monastery. Due to their size, they were not installed in the small original St. Herman church. The doors were installed in the iconostasis of the new church that was built in 1988, but for many years were adorned only with laminated icons. In November and December of 2015, Vitaly Borisov, the Russian iconographer who has painted many other icons for our monastery, completed new icons for the doors, which were brought back from Russia by one of the monastery brothers.
