On November 15/28, 2014, we celebrated the Repose Day of St. Herman of Alaska (+1836), one of three Feasts of St. Herman that we celebrate each year (the others being the Glorification of St. Herman on July 27/August 9, and the Feast of St. Herman on December 12/25). This year, Archpriest Paul Volmensky, Deacon Nikolai Lenkoff, and many parishioners from the Holy Ascension Orthodox Church in Sacramento (Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia) came to celebrate the feast with us. Also present were local Orthodox faithful as well as pilgrims who had been staying at the monastery, including Deacon John Bean of the Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Salt Lake City (Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese).
We celebrated the service both for St. Herman, and for St. Paisius Velichkovsky (+1794), who also reposed and is commemorated on this day. After the Divine Liturgy, we celebrated the Slava service to St. Herman for our patronal Feast, then went in procession to the trapeza for the festal meal. The pilgrims from Sacramento spent the rest of the morning in the monastery before going to visit nearby St. Xenia Skete in Wildwood.
